How do you know when you’ve made mistakes on Social Media? Is it by the number of engagements?

Do you post a lot but get frustrated with the results?

I get it – the algorithm changes constantly. And here’s the thing, we get less engagement on our content sometimes, too. But then some of our quality content blows up more than we expected it to.

It’s like when you launch a product, and you think it’s going to do well but it doesn’t. On the flip side, you may have a product that you don’t expect to do good but it gets sold out in hours.

It’s the same thing with our posts. Have you ever done what you thought was an epic post, only to get crickets? And then you do a post where you think “I’m just going to throw this out there” and it goes viral?

So some of that is just the way it is. However, there are some blatant mistakes that people make on Social Media the actually hurt their business.

Inside today’s training, I’ll dive deeper into exactly what these mistakes are and how you can avoid them!

7 Common Social Media Mistakes Too Many Network Marketers Make

#1: Complaining About Not Having Enough Engagement

So many people do this. Meanwhile, they’ve got 15 likes and 4 comments on their last post. What about those people? Are those people not good enough?

Even if you have a handful of likes and comments, reach out to the people who made them.

Why? Because:

a) it’s important for us to have gratitude and
b) you’ll stand out from the crowd

So when you’re complaining about engagement, think about what you already have. You have some Facebook friends, you have some new followers, you have some people inboxing you. Take responsibility and engage with the existing audience you already have.

Even if you have one person liking only one of your posts, reach out to them and say:

  • “Hey, what’s up? Thanks for the love of my posts. How are you?”

I still do this today even though I’m not as proactive as I was when I first got on social media. But I still send out at least 5-7 messages/day to new friend requests on Facebook and new followers on Instagram.

You’ve got to be proactive. And if you want people engaging with you, you’ve got to engage with them.

#2: Not Providing Enough Value

I could probably look at most of your pages/profiles and figure out real quick why you’re struggling.

The truth is, people will be more interested in your business when they see you showing up value on a regular basis. That’s how they’ll get to know you and eventually, trust you.

And we all know that people do business with people they know, like, and trust.

#3: Promoting Your Company and Products Too Soon

Have you ever gotten a Friend request and responded with:

  • “Hey, Steven! Thank you for the friend request. And thanks for liking my last post about my incredible product. Would you like to buy it?”

Pump the brakes! You’ve got commission breath.

The truth is, we’re all somewhat guilty of this. When we get involved in network marketing, we get too eager, too desperate, and too pushy.

IMP: Can you reach out to people and ask them if they’re open, right out of the gate? Yes!

But here’s how that conversation should look like:

  • You: “Hey Sam, how’s it going? How’s the family? What about the job?
  • Prospect: [Replies]
  • You: “Oh, that’s awesome. I’ll tell you what Sam, the reason I’m reaching out to you is because we’re launching a new product/we’re having a ton of success. I’m working with some incredible people. They’re mentoring me and teaching me how to build an online income stream. Also, they asked me if I knew any sharp individuals and I thought of you. I know we haven’t spoken in a couple of years but I’d love to share with you what I’m doing. If you’re open, great! If not, no big deal. Maybe you know someone who’s sharp and ambitious, and who’s looking for an additional income stream/who would love to make money online from home? If you know anybody like that, I’d love to have a conversation with them.”

If you don’t like this example, use your own language. But stop overthinking it!

#4: Not Promoting Your Company or Products At All

On the flip side, I see people who never promote their products.

How is anyone supposed to know you’ve got a product or an opportunity if you never talk about it? Or if you never promote it in your videos?

Now, you shouldn’t talk about it all the time. But if you never mention it at all, that just as bad, if not worse. Don’t be a secret agent!

#5: Branding Your Company Instead of Branding Yourself

It’s crucial to brand yourself, rather than your company. We’ve been talking about this for years now and I still see big leaders do it. They’ve got the name of their company plastered all over their Social Media profiles. And that works for them because they’re already an influencer.

But that’s not duplicatable. And the problem is they have a bunch of beginners who are getting involved and who are trying to be like the big leaders. Posting and promoting way too much and saying the name of the company. And they’re losing leads to Google.

At the end of the day, as much as I love my network marketing company, I don’t own it. I only make money if someone buys from me.

IMP: I do talk about my products or company, but I only give people the name when it’s a one-on-one conversation.

Now, you can do whatever works for you. But in my experience, if you have people in your team who are struggling, that could be the reason why.

#6: Being Present on Too Many Social Media Channels

What is your main Social Media channel? If you are present on too many platforms and you are overwhelmed, that is a personal choice. You can have it all, but you can’t do it all.

That’s why you need to outsource a lot of the things you want to do.

I know it’s tough because you want to be everywhere. You see your competitors on Clubhouse or on YouTube.

But the truth is, a lot of us are in a situation where we’re doing things prematurely. And here’s what I mean by that. We had a podcast back in the day, but we didn’t have the bandwidth to delegate it to our team, so it was hard to keep it up. Now, that we do, our podcast is thriving!

You don’t have to be on all the platforms. I know it’s tough and I know you have FOMO. But you have to stop it right now. Maybe delete one of the apps that’s overwhelming you?

If you’re crushing it on Facebook and Instagram, you don’t need to be on TikTok.

#7: Not Being Active on Social Media Consistently

Point blank, if you’re not posting at least once a day on Social Media, you’re missing the boat.

I primarily post about one to two times a day on Facebook, and once a day on Instagram. Sometimes, when we’re really crushing it on TikTok, it’ll be three-four times in a day. If not – then, at least, once a day. It all depends on what we’ve got on our schedule.

A good rule of thumb is to try to show up once a day.

The same thing is valid for your Instagram and Facebook stories. You should post several times throughout the day – just capturing moments, sharing quotes and testimonials. And if not – try to get some face time with your Instagram or Facebook Story at least once a day.

Just have fun with it. Remember: empower, entertain, educate!
